Is Jesus God

This Document is designed to explore what the scriptures say about the deity of Jesus Christ.

1: The prophet is foretelling the coming of the Messiah:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

2: This is another scripture that links God and Jesus as being equal

1 John 5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

3: Thomas refers to Jesus as his Lord and his God

John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

4: Here in Timothy and John, it talks about God being manifest in the flesh. Manifested,” The meaning is, “appeared” in the flesh which Jesus did. The bible also speaks many times about the Word of God becoming Flesh and blood.

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us

1Timothy 3:16  And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory

5: In Isaiah 42:8 God said that he will not give his glory to anyone else

Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

However, read John 17 3-5, Jesus says “O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” First of all Jesus was in heaven before the world was and secondly he shared the Glory of God, Remember there are three which make up God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Sprit.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (4) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. (5) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.  Immanuel means God with us

6: Zechariah is speaking of when Jesus will return

Zechariah 14:5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

7: Ephesians 3:9  And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

8: John 10:30: I and my Father are one.

9: It is written, for there are three that bear record in heaven, the FATHER, the WORD, and the HOLY GHOST: and these three are one-1 John 5:7.

There are three separate Persons of the Trinity. These three are illustrated here.

God, the Father.

God, the Son, which is Jesus. the word is Jesus. It is written, his name (Jesus) is called the word of God-Revelation 19:13. Also it is written, in the beginning was the word (Jesus), and the word (Jesus) was with God, and the word (Jesus) was God. Jesus is the Word and He is God. and the word (Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us-John 1:1, 14.

God, the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit.

10: Here we read that if you have the Spirit of God, that is the Holy Spirit you will confess that Jesus is God. If you can not confess that Jesus is in fact God manifested in the flesh you do not have the Holy Spirit.

1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

11: We are also issued a warning if we don’t believe we are an antichrist, I think we know what will happed to them.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

1John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

12: Here Jesus is speaking of the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit will give glory to Jesus, How can the Holy Spirit (who is the third person in the trinity) give glory to Jesus unless Jesus is God or the second person in the trinity.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

13: When Stephen called upon God he said Lord Jesus; remember he is talking to his God

Act 7:59 and they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

14: The Jews sought to kill Jesus on many occasions because he claimed he was the only begotten son of God

John 5:18  Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

15:  Here are several references that Jesus is the one who created the Earth and the heavens and all things in it.

Colossians 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (19) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; (20)  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. (4) In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  (Remember, Jesus is the way and the life)

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Hebrews 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

Amos 4:13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.

We now read in Genesis 1:1 that God created the heavens and the earth

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

16: Now let's look in the book of Hebrews

Hebrews 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? (6) And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. (7) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. (8) But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Let’s take another look, God the Father is speaking to his only begotten son. This is interesting because God the Father calls Jesus (or his only begotten son) GOD.

17: Paul said Jesus is the "fullness of the Godhead bodily. Jesus is equal to the God head which is the great three in one, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (9) For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

18: This refers to God and the Father as to having separate personalities. Here we read that the God is placed on the Lord Jesus Christ. If it's not than who is Gods Father?

Galatians 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

19: This states that our redeemer and the creator is the same person or being. As any Christian knows, Jesus is our redeemer, Jesus is our creator and that God created the heavens and the Earth as stated in Genesis.

Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

20: Once again it tells us here the our Creator is the everlasting God. Our Creator is Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

21: Here we find that Paul states that Jesus proclaimed that he was equal with God Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (6) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

22: Here the LORD is said to be our saviour, we all know that Jesus Christ is our saviour, who died on the cross for us. Isaiah 43:12 declares that the LORD is GOD. He also claims that their was no GOD before Him or will be after him.  Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (11) I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. (12) I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

23: In Isaiah 40:3 we are foretold of the coming of Jesus by John the Baptist, reading in Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Here in Isaiah Jesus is referred to as God.
