Does GOD really exist?
This question has been asked many times over the last 6 thousand years or so. Can we really be sure that God exists? Can we really come to know this God? How do we know which God is the real God? Many have claimed to be god over the centuries, but have any measured up to what we come to think of what god would be like.
Most of us would agree that a true God would have to have certain attributes that would make him God.
The King James Bible makes the claim that it was inspired by God, but how can we be sure? Reading in 2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: But is this true? Just because someone writes down on paper that they are God does not make it so.
Some non-Christians claim that Bible believing Christians take a blind leap of faith in the dark with no logical explanation or common sense about it. Although this might be true for some Christians it is not the case for a true believer in Christ.
I have heard people say that God said it, I believe it and that settles it. This statement does hold some merit in the Christian walk of life. However, a person who follows Islam can say the same thing about Muhammad and the Quran. One who practices Buddhism could easily say Buddha said it, I believe and that settles it. The Mormons have one up on us, they have faith in their God and they have a burning in the bosom.
Faith does play a part in believing in the God of the Bible, as stated in Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. But it is not a blind leap of faith.
If I wrote a string of number like this 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 then told you that the next number would be 10. You would have to take that on faith, because I did not actually write it as part of the string of numbers. It would not require a person to have very much faith because there is a pattern laid out that is easy to follow and the next number of 10 would be logical.
This is exactly how the Bible works. It lays out a pattern that is just as easy to follow. Let's take a look at scripture and see if we can find this pattern.
Does the God of the Bible claim to be God:
Does the Bible make the claim that the God of the Bible is God?
Yes, let's take a look at Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (10) Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
First, we see that the Bible does in fact make the claim that the God of the Bible is God, and He is the only God as stated "I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me". And Secondly, right after He claims to be the only God He tells us how to verify that claim in "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done".
So there you have it. The God of the Bible makes the claim that He is God and he tell us how to authenticate that claim of Deity by God proclaiming what is going happen thousands of years in the future with 100% accurately.
One only needs to take a look at the prophecies of Israel to see a pattern to the amazing accuracy of the Bible, Let's take a look.
1) The Jews will rebuild the city
Amos 9:14 And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. (15) And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
This is a verification of many of the other prophecies that the Jewish people were going to be led captive into every nation as stated in Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Their deliverance and return to Israel would be greater then their exodus from Egypt. This is recorded in Jeremiah 16:14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; (15) But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. And also in Jeremiah 23:7-8.
2) Israel will become a nation
On May 14, 1948 Israel became a nation. The United Nations, through resolution 181 calling for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine and brought forth the nation of Israel in one day. This is also a prophesy being fulfilled as stated in Isaiah 66:8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
How could this be foretold thousands of years before it happen? How can this be 100% correct except it comes from the true God?
3) The national of Israel would be divided
In Joel 3:1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, (2) I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. In 800 BC, God declared that the day was coming when all nations would join to divide the land of Israel: “I will also gather all nations...and will plead with them [punish them] for my people and [for] my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.” This is remarkable! Throughout its entire 3,000-plus-year history, the land of Israel had never been divided.
It had been conquered by various nations, but even when the Turks held it as part of their Ottoman Empire for 400 years; they did not divide the land. A conqueror keeps the land he has conquered intact for himself. Israel received 13 percent of what they had been promised.
Genesis 15:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
4) Jerusalem would be a cup of trembling
Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of
trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the
siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. (3)
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all
people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces,
though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
From 1967-1989 out of 865 resolutions in the Security Council and General Assembly of the UN, 526 were against the tiny land of Israel. Jerusalem is indeed a burdensome stone for the entire world. The news and all eyes are on this tiny country which could start World War III at any moment in time.
5) Israel would be destroyed
The destruction of Israel. Jesus Himself predicted the fall of Jerusalem in Luke 19:43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, (44) And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. This was also recorded in Deuteronomy 28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. And in Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
6) Israel would be reborn / rebuilt
The rebirth of Israel would happen after many days. It would occur a long time in the future after the prophecy was made and at the time the Bible calls the latter days as stated in Ezekiel 38:8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. It is estimated that this prophecy was made around 580 B.C. Approximately 2500 years later, in 1948, this prophecy was fulfilled.
7) Israel would again inhabit the city of Jerusalem
Israel must regain the city of Jerusalem as stated in Isaiah 28:14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. And Ezekiel 22:19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. This happened just as foretold in May 1967. When this event happened we are told that we are living in the last days.
8) Israel would be re-gathered back to her home land of Israel
Again, we are told that after God brings the people of Israel back to their home land he will never again remove them from it as stated in Amos 9:15 And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
Ezekiel 36:8 But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come. (9) For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown: (10) And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded:
Israel is there to stay. Israel will never be cast out of her land again.
9) Israel will prevail over its enemies
Isaiah 41:12 Thou shalt seek
them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee:
they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of
nought. (13) For I the
LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I
will help thee. (14)
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee,
saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
The prophet proclaimed that God would help Israel during times of war with her enemies. Since 1948 after the re-establishment of Israel, Israel has been victorious in every war it has fought. Some with overwhelming odds against Israel.
10) Ezekiel prophesied prosperity for modern-day Israel
Ezekiel 36:11 And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
In 1999, Israel had the highest per capita Gross Domestic Product of any nearby country, even though the surrounding countries have many oil resources.
11) Trees again would grow in Israel
Isaiah 41:18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. (19) I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: (20) That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
During the past century, more than 200 million trees have been planted in Israel.
12) Isaiah said Israel's fruit would fill the world
Isaiah 27:6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.
Today, Israel is a leading producer of agricultural products, exporting food to many countries.
13) Jerusalem would become the world's most important religious site
Micah 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to
pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be
established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted
above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
The prophet stated that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem would become the focal point of the world. Today the Dome of the Rock currently sits in the middle of the temple mount. It occupies or is close to the area where the Torah mandates the Holy Temple be rebuilt.
14) Egypt would never again rule over other nations
Ezekiel 29:15 It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations.
Egypt had been a world power for centuries, dominating many nations, including Israel. But for most of the past 2500 years, Egypt has been controlled by foreign powers, including the Romans, Ottomans and Europeans. Today, Egypt is an independent nation again. In 1948, 1967 and 1973, Egypt tried to dominate Israel but was unsuccessful each time, despite the fact that Egypt is 10 times larger than Israel. Since the time of Ezekiel, Egypt no longer rules over other nations.
15) Zechariah prophesied the Jews return to Jerusalem
Zechariah 8:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; (8) And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.
The prophet said God would bring the Jewish people back from their exile to their inheritance which is Israel. In 1948 this prophesy was fulfilled 100 percent.
16) Israel's deserts will become like the Garden of Eden
Isaiah 51:3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.
Before 1948 the land of Israel was a barren waste land. Since the return of the Jewish people the land has been transformed into a land of paradise. The land around Israel is still some what barren in comparison to the Holy city.
17) God will save the Jews and destroy their enemies
Jeremiah 30:11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
Israel has been all but destroyed a number of times during the last couple of thousand years or so. However, no one was able to completely destroy the Jews just as God has said.
18) The Jews would face many disasters and difficulties
Deuteronomy 31:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. (17) Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
We can truly say that the Jewish people were the most persecuted people on the face of the earth. The Jews were all through history threaten with annihilation many times. From Rome, to Hitler, to the six day war; to the current Anti-Semitism that is rising in the world today. We are told that at the battle of Armageddon the whole world will be against the tiny land of Israel.
19) The Jews would be scattered worldwide
Deuteronomy 28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
One only needs to look at history to see that this old testament prophecy was indeed fulfilled. The Jews were nick-named the wandering Jew. The Jews have been dispersed to all countries including North America and Russia.
20) The Jews would have a worldwide impact
Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: (3) And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
How could anyone believe that tiny Israel could be such a problem to the entire world? Israel is the focal point of its surrounding nations as they swore they will wipe Israel off of the face of the world. The world stands ignorant of this fact. Israel is condemned for protecting herself in the face of millions of Arabs who are determined to destroy her.
21) When Israel blooms again, the Kingdom of God will be near
Luke 21:29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; (30) When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. (31) So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
As we have just read over and over again, Israel is back in her land and the land of Israel blossoms once again. This is telling us that the end times are near at hand. Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Genesis 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
