How many times have you heard someone say "I'm only going along with something or someone because I want to lead them to the Lord" How many scriptures of Jesus and his ministry tell of Him going into the ungodly and partaking of their ways in order to win them over?
Yes, it true that Jesus walked amount the sinners and the ungodly, but he never took part in their ways. When he was among them he clearly pronounced the Gospel unto them. He never condoned their action but rather rebuked them.
We are to do the same in our Christian walk. Jesus never told us to "just love them" but charged us to preach the Gospel to the unsaved.
Reading in 1Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Peter does not say to dilute the message so the person won't take offence at your words.
Here is what the Bible has to say about fellowship.
The strongest man to ever live:
Samson was a Judge of Israel as stated in the book of Judges. Samson was chosen of God to deliver his people from the Philistines. We read in Judges that Samson was blessed of God from his birth Judges 13:24 And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
Samson fell into the wrong fellowship with a Philistine woman called Delilah. I sure that we all know the story of Samson and Delilah, and I will not go into great detail here. But we can see that if the strongest man can fall because of wrong fellowship so can we.
The wisest man to ever live:
King Solomon was the wisest man to ever live upon the earth. In the early years of King Solomon's life we find that he walked with God and considered himself a servant to God. In King Solomon's later days he married many strange women from the surrounding nations. Once again we find that for the love of many women King Solomon fell from God's grace.
We read that in the end years of King Solomon's life he was found worshipping the Gods of the women he married 1Kings 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. Because getting in with the wrong crowd, the wisest man in all the Earth came to his down fall.
Fellowship and Marriage:
The Bible clearly tells us that Christians are not to marry a non-Christian. Reading in 2Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? In John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Those that are saved are children of light. In order to be saved you must walk after the light which is Jesus Christ.
Again in Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. We are told that we should not mix or fellowship with those who do not walk in the path of Jesus Christ. This does not mean that we are to ignore or act like the non-Christian does not exist, but we are to preach the Gospel to them in order to win them over to Jesus Christ.
We read in 2Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: We in this life walk in our bodies of flesh and bone, we do not follow the ways of the flesh but we pursue the ways of God. We are to walk among the world, but not take part in its ways.
When Jesus was amount the ungodly and the sinners of this world he convicted them, but He never took part in their ways in order to get them to follow him. We must do the same, we must not fall into the ways of the world in order to get a following from the world. We can not lead a person to Christ by imitating there ways.
In Acts we are told that we are to preach the word. Not to get a rock and roll group together and sing them to Christ. We are told over 40 times in the New Testament that we are to preach the word! Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Seek Christian Fellowship:
We learn from God's word that we are to seek Christian fellowship. There are many passages stating this through the whole Bible. Starting with Act 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Philippians 2:2 Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. (3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (4) Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. (5) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
We find that the apostles and other believers continued to fellowship with each other. This strengthens each believer by having Godly people also searching the scriptures daily with them. Now they can grow in grace and knowledge. We are also admonished to look to the needs of other Christians. We are never told to turn to Psychology for our problems, but to seek His Word in all things that we do.
1Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. And Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
1Corinthians 10:20 But I say, that the things which the
Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I
would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Galatians 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
1John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: This is a powerful statement, anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ, but also walks in and with the world is a liar. Those who look and act like the world never came to the full understanding of God's will.
Reading in 1Corinthians 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
