Christian Rock and Roll - Part 3
Aren’t you causing divisions among Christians?
Yes. We Are.
But as any serious Bible-student knows, DIVISION from false doctrine, satanic influences, compromise and worldliness is commanded. The false idea that because someone is a Christian, or professes to be a Christian, we’re not to "judge" their error and separate (or divide) ourselves from them is simply wrong. We’re not only to separate ourselves from them but also warn others.
And yes, cause divisions. . .
Our prayer is to cause a DIVISION among Christians. We’re presenting the truth about Contemporary Christian Music and our prayer is that Christians will see CCM for what it really is ("wolves in sheep clothing" Matthew. 7:15) and DIVIDE from it.
Jesus Christ causes DIVISIONS:
“So there was a DIVISION among the people BECAUSE OF HIM”
Jesus Christ said plainly in Luke 12:51 — He came to cause DIVISIONS:
"Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather DIVISION:"
Paul commands DIVISIONS among Christians:
2 Thessalonians. 3:6
"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye WITHDRAW yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us."
Notice the requirement for DIVISION: ". . .every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us". Every Brother. . .? Paul is referring to another Christian. Paul caused DIVISION among the body of Christ. Notice, ". . . every brother (a Christian) that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us". DISORDERLY AND ANTI-TRADITION? Is there a better description of Christian Contemporary Music?
Larry Norman displays the "not after tradition" or "rebellious" roots of CCM in "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music"
"I ain’t knockin’ the hymns, just give me a song that has a beat.
I ain’t knockin’ the hymns, just give me a song that moves my feat.
I don’t like none of them funeral marches, I ain’t dead yet"
Larry Norman mocks the old glorious hymns as "funeral marches"! Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, To God be the Glory, and thousands more!
Notice also, the title of Larry Norman’s song: "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music" — ALL THE GOOD MUSIC? The Lord God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, — according to Larry Norman (and CCM) does NOT have ANY GOOD MUSIC! The Devil has ALL the good music!!!! Amazing Grace is NOT GOOD? Jesus, What A Friend For Sinners is NOT GOOD? And The Rolling Stones . . . and Marilyn Manson. . . and Led Zeppelin is GOOD? What a mockery to the Holy and Wonderful and Glorious God of the Holy Bible!
Isaiah 5:20 wrote of Larry Norman and CCM:
"Woe unto them that CALL EVIL GOOD, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
Typical "rebellious", "disorderly" and "anti-Biblical" attitude of CCM. . .
2 Thessalonians 3:6
"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye WITHDRAW yourselves from every brother that walketh DISORDERLY, and NOT AFTER THE TRADITION which he received of us."
Paul commands, if a "brother" (again a Christian) does NOT obey the Word of God (such as CCM) — DIVIDE — "have no company with him, that he may be ashamed."
"And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother." 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15
Paul caused a DIVISION. Paul separated from Mark.
(37) And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
(38) But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
(39) And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
Paul rebuked the Apostle Peter - before all!
"But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?"
We as Christians, are the proclaimers of truth. And most of the time, the truth will cause DIVISION.
But isn’t this doing more harm than good?
No. It’s never wrong to publish the TRUTH.
