After the millennium
The 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ is known as the millennium. At this point in time satan is locked in the pit for the duration of the 1000 years. satan will not be able to release his reign of terror on the people of the world.
This is plainly stated in
Revelation 20:1 And I
saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless
pit and a great chain in his hand. (2)
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the
Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, (3)
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a
seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the
thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed
a little season.
We find that this time will be a time of peace on the earth. However this peace will not last. Here we will look into the scriptures on the topic relating to, right after the 1000 year reign of Christ and his saints.
After satan is released from the prison his short reign on earth is summed up in the book of Revelation chapter 20. Let's look in more detail at this event.
Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison. Here we are told that satan is loosed or released from prison. He did not escape of fight his way out, but rather God released satan at his appointed time.
Revelation 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. During the millennium, the earth was re-populated with those who were not killed during the battle of Armageddon. We are told that there will be very few deaths during this period of time. With 1000 years to reproduce, the earth will be home for millions of people.
This does not include the saints of God who have received their new bodies during the rapture and those who were martyred during the tribulation period.
Revelation 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Here we find that satan once again takes control of the people and leads them against God and his holy saints. This will be a short battle if you want to call this one sided encounter a battle.
The Mighty God of Heaven and earth will destroy satan and his followers in the final battle against God.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. After the battle satan is cast into the lake of fire. He will never be released again.
We are told that the false
prophet and the beast are already in the lake of fire as stated in
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought
miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received
the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These
both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white
throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the
heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
